BHUBANESWAR: Elected representatives of three panchayats of Joda and Jhumura blocks of Keonjhar district today demanded action against mines mafias for taking away the jobs of the local people by bringing outsiders for mining activities. Addressing mediapersons here, tribal women representatives of the two blocks including Padmini Khelar and Laximipriya Bankira said that outsiders have eaten away the job of the local people. So far people from Jharkhand, Bihar and West Bengal were working in different mines. Now large number of people from Tamil Nadu are engaged in the mining activities threatening the livelihood of the local people, they said. About three families working in different mines of Nayagarh, Badada and Badakalimati panchayats are rendered jobless due to influx of workers from outside the state mostly from Tamil Nadu. This illegal activities are going on with the active patronage of the local administration. They further alleged that the use of heavy machineries in mines have also rendered many families jobless. Any protest by the local people are muzzled by goons hired by the mines owners from outside the state. Some of the workers were manhandled by the goons of the mines owners on January 2 when they protested the engagement of outsides. Although the matter was brought to the notice of the police, no action has been initiated against the culprits they said. They urged the Government to take immediate action against those mines owners who are employing outsiders in mining activities violating the labour laws.Courtesy:ExpressBuzz.
