Midnapore,: Tension ran high in West Midnapore district today when a delayed message of the death of Dukhu Sabar, a tribal living in Tunkapur village near Chumkasole under Belpahari Police Station reached the district headquarters.
Laxmirani Sabar, wife of Dukhu Sabar, complained that Dukhu died of underfeeding and malnutrition on Wednesday last.
She said the family received some provisions from the block office occasionally and they were too poor to buy any food.
His neighbour Santosh Sabor said that the family had no money to buy provisions from ration shops.
BDO Belpahari Sunanda Bhattacharya, however, said that the family was given Rs 350 on June 3 to buy food.
Meanwhile, Minister-in-charge of Food and Rationing Jyotipriyo Mallick said that he has sent his officers to the village to enquire and report on the incident.
Preliminary investigation revealed that he was suffering from tuberculosis.
