GUWAHATI, July 20 – The All Adivasi Students’ Association of Assam (AASAA) today demanded of Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi to implement the Adivasi Development Council only after signing of an accord between the government and various Adivasi organizations in the presence of Central government representatives.
It may be mentioned here that the student body submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding tripartite talk between Centre, State and the Adivasi organizations to discuss the genuine grievances of the Adivasis.
The other demands of the student body include upgrading LP and ME schools in tea garden areas to high schools, increasing wages of tea garden labourers to Rs 200, fixing the working time of tea garden workers from 9 am to 4.30 pm like other industries, immediate eradication of child labour from tea gardens and implementation of NRHM schemes in all tea gardens of Assam.
“We have been demanding CBI inquiry into the killings of Adivasi leaders but so far the government has been indifferent to our demand,” said a functionary of the student body.
On the other hand, the student body has also insisted that the flood problem in the State be declared a national problem. It has also demanded that the government stop construction of big dams.Courtesy:TheAssamTribune..
