NASHIK: Hundreds of tribals from Nashik marched to the offices of the tribal development commissioner and the district collector on Tuesday demanding forest land rights.
The labourers and the tribals, whose claims under Forest Rights Act (FRA) were rejected, demanded that the land claims be settled at the earliest and through easier means of identifying the tribals and the labourers. The tribals had gathered under the banner of the Satyashodhak Gramin Kashtakari Sabha.
The tribals were asked to produce several documents including birth and caste certificates to authenticate their claims. The tribals have never prepared any kind of records for their lands. “There is no chance that they will be able to submit such documents. The applications which have already been submitted have not been decided upon for over a year,” Karansing Kokani, who was leading the morcha, said.
The sabha presented a memorandum to resident district deputy collector Jitendra Kakusthe and discussed the issues. Kakusthe has assured to look into the matter.
