Odisha, Part of Van Bandhu Yojana

BHUBANESWAR: The Centre on Tuesday launched a pilot project under Van Bandhu Kalyan Yojana (VKY) in one tribal-dominated block each of 10 States, including Odisha to develop them as model blocks. The Ministry of Tribal Affairs has earmarked `10 crore for each block to create an enabling environment for overall development of tribal people.
Launching the scheme in New Delhi, Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram said the selection of the pilot blocks was made in consultation with the respective State governments while taking into account the human development indices (HDI).
The scheme will focus on bridging infrastructural gaps and human development indices between Schedule Tribes and other social groups. He said VKY also envisages convergence of different schemes of development of Central Ministries and State Governments.
