Adivasi And Political Parties

Oh! Yes, The Congress Party has again set to raise the Adivasis development issues in North Bengal.

There is no doubt the congress party has always raised the demands concerning to Adivasis society. But only forgot to raise the same to competent authorities.

I am not sure if congress party has boasted to have clinched anything worthy and important for Adivasi society in Dooars and Tarai.

So far, congress may not have boasted congress hand in anything important in recent past or present for the benefit of the poor tribals of Dooars and Tarai. Yes, there is always congress hand in Adivasi society, but, only as election symbol of congress the HATH CHHAP.

Now Congress party wants to go inroad of tribal belt of Dooars and Tarai by raising Adivasis issues. Should the tribal people welcome the good gesture of congress at their doorsteps?

Congress had raised countless burning issues of Adivasi society in local locality, but, it always forgot to raise the same issues at  proper platform like administration and at assembly floor.

However, I am not sure; if it had had shed only crocodile tears in the name of Adivasi development. Yes, the congress party like any other political party of north Bengal has always been interested in Adivasis votes. But, you, me and everyone knows, every Indian party has the political right to get votes from Indian citizens including Adivasi society of North Bengal.

I remember, the Congress party had pasted poster demanding Hindi schools and colleges in Dooars at many localities of Dooars at several occasions during current and last decade.

However, it always forgot to raise the demands to district administration, to executive council of north Bengal University, at assembly, at writers building or to the council of ministers of west Bengal. Were they not serious?  Were their intensions wrong? Oh, no, do not jump to conclusion. In fact they had exhibited good intention of solving the problems at many occasions like RSP, CPI (M) do at the local level only.

Poor, gullible and illiterate tribals of Dooars and Tarai are the target group of every political party. The numbers of votes are attractive. If you win their heart by merely raising their social, political or educational causes, the votes will rain like anything to your pockets. Oh! ‘Yes!  Adivasis are so simple and mindless that they will not raise questions on your intention.’ Once you get the votes, dump their cause in Tista and Rydak (rivers) for the next five years.

The congress party, which is the chief opposition party in WB Assembly for the last three decades, had forgotten to raise the Adivasis questions in Assembly and their sense of responsibility has recently woken up for Adivasi after getting no Adivasi votes in Kalchini assembly by-election. Oh! What the beautiful deep sense of responsibility. They might have been thinking for last thirty years that education issue is very small issue for Adivasi of North Bengal as they do not have interests in education.

The Assembly election is nearing fast, every day. So, votes of Adivasi should be counted at least for the forthcoming election. What is the fancy of designing election strategy? You merely raise the burning questions and attract the Adivasi youth-force in your fold who could  be employed during election campaign then dump them and their issues.

The constitution was framed giving top-most important of all round development of poor people of the country. The constitution hoped to churn out the best minds and systems through the election process. However, political systems of this nation has failed miserably and instead of churning out the best, it is churning out the rouge ones, who are just interested in getting votes and privileges without doing anything for the masses.

The so called national parties are also doing the same tricks as doing by the small parties like CPI (M), RSP, FB. Adivasi issues always get important for them till the election. Once election game is over Adivasi issues of existence and development are over.  The party of proletarian like CPI (M) and RSP just behave as like as party of rightist wing like Siva Sena of Balasaheb Thackray and MNS of Rajsaheb Thackray. The leftist minister of WB in charge of education once thundered and asked ‘why Adivasi want Hindi schools and question papers in Hindi?’ Then there were no consideration for education through Hindi for many years. Many hundred thousand Hindi medium students compelled to drop the education because they were not well conversed either with Bengali or English which are the language of higher education at college level.  But no body including opposition party of WB assembly questioned–‘What is the thinking pattern of communist of India and what the concept of proletarians is?’ The feudal thinking might have been vanished from the school text books; however, it is still living vividly in the mind of so called communists of West Bengal. Should we think Congress is different from CPI (M)?
